Tournament lures large crowd to Turtle Creek
In partnership with the Indiana Catfish Association, Hoosier Energy sponsored the fourth annual Turtle Creek Open catfish tournament March 17 at Turtle Creek Reservoir in Sullivan County. There were 267 participants with 117 boats on the water competing for $2,750 in cash and prizes.
Anglers were judged on the weight of their largest catfish and the total weight of their 10 best.
The first place winners were Jeff Schmeltz, Dustin Doss and Joel Scott. Their 10 channel catfish weighed in at 24.9 pounds.
The winning weight for a single catfish was a 7-pound channel catfish caught by teammates Kenny Boller and Ron Beaver.
The tournament showcases fishing and other recreational activities. The 1,550-acre reservoir is stocked with bluegill, redear sunfish, black crappie, largemouth bass and channel catfish.
