Large electric transformer moved from Martinsville to Bloomington substation
A large electric transformer was moved from a rail site on May 7 in Martinsville to a substation north of Bloomington. The trailer and transformer traveled down State Road 37 at an average speed of 10 miles per hour or less. The transformer, which is used to raise and lower voltage, is essential for reliable power delivery in the central Indiana bulk electric system. Push and pull semi-tractors were used to move the trailer. The transformer itself is 16-feet, 10 inches high; 13-feet 3 inches wide; 28-feet, 5 inches long, and weighs more than 200 tons.
