Hoosier Energy's Ratts Station workforce celebrates safety milestone
Ratts Generating Station employees celebrated six years without a lost-time accident during a special luncheon Sept. 10 at Hoosier Energy's plant in Petersburg.
Chief Executive Officer Steve Smith attended to congratulate and thank the Ratts workforce for its exceptional safety record.
"You are a great model for the entire company," said Smith. "Safety is a key word in our mission statement and this is a shining example. Ultimately, it's all about each one of you and your co-workers going home safe every day. This milestone speaks volumes about the culture of safety that you have here."
With the six-year mark surpassed on Sept. 9, Ratts employees had amassed more than 2,200 days and more than 500,000 man-hours of work without a reportable lost-time accident.Management Services Vice President Bob Richhart said that in 20 years of participating in electric cooperative plant safety programs he has not heard of a generating station with a safety record as long as six years.
"It"s very much a team effort and a powerful symbol of the importance and value of safety," said Richhart.
Power Production Vice President Rob Hochstetler also commended the employees for the record. "Six years without a lost-time accident is a super achievement," said Ratts Station Manager Jesse Billings.
