Hoosier Energy, CoBank make contribution to sports complex

SULLIVAN -- The continuing development of a youth sports complex in Sullivan County will progress with contributions from Hoosier Energy, in conjunction with a donation from CoBank, a U.S. agricultural credit bank serving cooperatives. The joint contribution of $10,000 was presented to the Sullivan City Park Board on Thursday.

Representatives from the Sullivan County Soccer Association, the Sullivan County Girls Softball League and the Sullivan County Youth Football organization were present to accept the donation from Hoosier Energy.

The contribution will be used to complete construction of concession stands and park benches, among other projects at the Sullivan County Park Youth Facility. The concession facilities are expected to generate funding for additional projects and equipment for athletes. Project completion dates are planned for 2015.

Merom Station Plant Administrative Coordinator and Sullivan County resident Jon Bobbitt said, "I am thrilled to be part of the Hoosier Energy, REC team that helps fund projects like this in difficult economic times for our community." He added: "It is projects such as these that allow Hoosier Energy, REC to partner with CoBank in the cooperative spirit, making long-lasting impacts on families that use the facilities."

Previous CoBank and Hoosier Energy joint contributions to support Sullivan County programs include funding for the city pool and the local humane shelter.
